Thread: Twilight Struggle:: Rules:: Newbie Questions - We Will Bury You / Control & Dominance and an Amusing Fail

Two questions and an entertaining story from tonight's session.

I've played a few games but tonight my USSR opponent played "We Will Bury You" for the event as one of his actions. I had UN Intervention but I wasn't sure how it resolved:

1) I play UN Intervention and my turn is over, USSR receives no points.

2) I play UN intervention and it cancels WWBY but I get the 4 Ops points on WWBY.

3) I play UN Intervention alongside another event card (presumably a USSR one) - WWBY is cancelled AND the other card I play has it's event ignored and I get the Ops points for that card (not WWBY).

My other question is about Control and Dominance definitions, I'm aware you can only qualify for the highest one however I don't understand if it's possible to qualify for Control if you DO NOT qualify for Dominance.

- To qualify for Dominance then you have to own a Battleground and non-Battleground country as well as having more overall countries.

- To qualify for Control then you just need ALL the Battleground countries but there is apparently no need to hold a non-Battleground country - is this correct?

One final question - when determining dominance then having more countries overall means adding up all the controlled countries regardless of Battleground status - correct?

If you've read this far then you are rewarded with a tale this evening of when my USSR opponent didn't read Quagmire or Bear Trap closely enough (though I recognise they are ambiguously worded) and so played Quagmire for the points and then played Bear Trap for the points only to discover he had to spend the remaining turns discarding cards and taking no further actions causing him to throw away all his Ops cards and he ended the turn by hold South East Asian Scoring - very awkward! I didn't complain about winning though

Other amusing things in this evening's game included me drawing Middle-East, Asia AND Europe Scoring in the third turn, OUCH! shake
